Whale Watching in Guadeloupe

You are a sea lover and want to live an incredible experience in Guadeloupe, follow the guide and embark with us to discover cetaceans.

The Islands of Guadeloupe offer an idyllic setting for sailing and hoping to come across these giants of the sea.

When is the best time to go on a cetacean excursion in Guadeloupe ?

Many species of dolphins and sperm whales live all year round in Guadeloupe, particularly on the leeward coast. From December to May, humpback whales do us the honor of passing through our Guadeloupean waters and roam the coasts, offering us superb observations.

An intimate approach that respects the environment and marine mammals

It is from the island of Basse-Terre that we have chosen to take you on board our boat of 12 passengers maximum : a small group approach and with the greatest respect for the environment and cetaceans. Our boat is entirely sheltered and shaded.

From the fishing port of Baillargent in Pointe-Noire in Guadeloupe, meet Naël, your qualified, passionate captain certified by the AGOA sanctuary and set off for a half-day to meet dolphins, sperm whales and whales.

The AGOA sanctuary is a huge protected marine area with an area of more than 140,000 km2 integrating the entire area of the French Antilles, namely Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

Progress of your dolphin and whale outing in Guadeloupe

Soleil Excursions offers you two outings per day, every day of the week departing from the fishing port of Baillargent in Pointe-Noire in Basse-Terre. The excursion lasts between 3 and 4 hours.

  • Morning outing: Meet at 7:30 a.m. for departure at 8 a.m.

  • Afternoon outing: Meet at 12:15 p.m. for departure at 12:30 p.m.

“Confidence for Confidence”: Your Captain Naël loves people who are on time, because it is important for him to take the time to debrief before boarding.

During the excursion, we use a quality hydrophone, which we position a few meters below the sea surface, in order to measure the acoustic noise and position the cetaceans in the surrounding area. On board, we share with you the sounds that we identify thanks to the hydrophone (you are not at the end of your surprises, between the whistles, the songs, the clicks or even the sounds of the sea).

Did you know that among whales, only males sing?

Listening to the hydrophone allows us to put all the chances on our side to offer you great observations of the cetaceans in Guadeloupe.

To establish our route at sea, we take into consideration the seabed of the leeward coast, the drop-offs, and any other details such as the weather, the presence of birds, etc.

Some things are to be seen, others are to be experienced…

Our excursions belong to the second category. No photo, no video, no testimony can faithfully transcribe the emotions and sensations experienced on board.

It is important to us to share our love for these giants of the sea with you by allowing you to observe several species during your excursion. It is not uncommon to observe entire groups of dolphins.

For this, your captain will call on you, he will need your eyes, your patience, but also your alertness.

When a sperm whale does us the honor of being observed, there is only very little time left on the surface. Indeed, the sperm whale can stay several hours in the depths, being able to descend to more than 1000 meters depth to feed, it only comes up for a few minutes to breathe on the surface. It is at this precise moment that you will have to open your eyes wide to admire its superb tail and try to immortalize this magical moment.

In the middle of the journey, a short break is planned with a juice and water offered on board, while admiring the beauty of the Basse-Terre landscapes and the immensity of the Caribbean Sea

IMPORTANT:
Each excursion is unique, we want it to be unforgettable, but let's keep in mind that we can never be sure of seeing cetaceans. Although some species of dolphins And sperm whales are residents in Guadeloupe, no two outings are the same. The cetaceans are wild marine mammals that evolve in their natural environment, they are therefore the only ones to decide whether or not to be observed.

Observe the cetaceans in Guadeloupe is above all, an experience that is lived.
