Whale watching excursion in Guadeloupe

Frequently Asked Questions

Here, you will find all the answers to your questions concerning your future excursion to observe cetaceans in Guadeloupe

When going out to sea, can you not see anything ?

It is important not to forget that cetaceans are wild animals that evolve in their natural environment. This environment is very large. We have no control over their ways of living, moving or their positions.

Even if it remains rare, it is possible to see nothing during a cetacean observation excursion in Guadeloupe. No refund can be considered in this particular case.

How many people maximum on the boat ?

Our boat has 12 seats, we favor a small group approach with the greatest respect for cetaceans in Guadeloupe. The number of people is therefore limited to 12 people maximum.

How do I prepare for my sea excursion ?

Depending on your geographic location in Guadeloupe, it is important to plan and anticipate your travel time to arrive on time at the meeting point in Pointe-Noire. Only bring the bare minimum at sea. But remember your sunglasses and your camera.

Would I be able to touch, swim or even feed the whales or dolphins during the excursion ?

You will not be able to touch, swim or even feed the cetaceans during your sea excursion, out of the greatest respect for the life of the animals in their natural environment.

Is the captain qualified ?

The captains of Soleil Excursions all hold the Captain's Certificate 200 and are trained by AGOA for approaching and observing cetaceans in Guadeloupe.

What is the Barnier Tax ?

The tax on maritime passengers embarking for protected natural areas is a French tax created by the Barnier law of 1995.

It was created with the aim of compensating for damage caused by tourist activities and transport in protected natural areas.

How long does an excursion last ?

Your sea excursion lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours.

Why do cetaceans come to the surface ?

Cetaceans are not fish but are exclusively aquatic mammals, so they come to the surface to breathe. This is also when we carry out the observations.

From what age are children accepted on the boat ?

Children are accepted from 3 years old. Life jackets are provided on the boat.

What are the cancellation conditions during bad weather ?

It is possible to cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before the trip, in which case we undertake to refund you in full.

In the event of bad weather making navigation impossible, we reserve the right to cancel the outing and therefore refund you in full or postpone it to another day (if you wish and have the possibility).

Do you have a tip for dealing with seasickness during my sea excursion ?

Fresh ginger is a “grandmother’s remedy" that works very well.

Can we observe cetaceans all year round in Guadeloupe ?

All year round in our Guadeloupean waters, it is possible to observe sperm whales and several species of dolphins which are residents there. Humpback whales and male sperm whales are migratory and are only visible from December to May.

You can also see Orcas, other species of dolphins, pseudo-orcas and pilot whales at any time of the year.
