When booking a whale-watching trip in Guadeloupe, one question comes up almost every time:
“Are we guaranteed to see whales or dolphins?”
Our answer often comes as a surprise.
No.
And that’s precisely what makes these encounters so exceptional.
Because the whales, dolphins, and sperm whales we observe don’t live in an aquarium. They are free—free to move as they please, to behave as they choose, and to live at their own pace.
Every trip out to sea is therefore different. It’s this element of the unexpected that makes whale and dolphin watching so magical.

At Soleil Excursions, we’re fortunate to operate along the Leeward Coast, one of the best areas for whale and dolphin watching in Guadeloupe.
But as exceptional as this area is, nature always has the final say.
Some trips begin with a pod of dolphins just minutes after leaving the harbor; others require a bit more patience.
We scan the horizon, watch for birds, and analyze the sea, the currents, and the light.
Then suddenly… a blow appears, followed by a second, and sometimes a humpback whale surfaces with its calf, or a group of sperm whales slowly rises to the surface to breathe just a few hundred meters from the boat.
You can't plan for moments like these—you just have to experience them
Every day, the sea reminds us that we have no control over anything
This is undoubtedly the most beautiful lesson the cetaceans teach us.
In our daily lives, we often try to plan everything; at sea, that’s impossible. The animals choose their own path; they decide whether to stay at the surface… or to disappear into the depths.
They may let us watch them for several minutes… or simply leave us with a blow on the horizon.
And yet, even on the calmest days, no one ever really comes back disappointed. Because we learn to look differently, to listen, to observe, and to appreciate the ocean in all its authenticity.
Of course, some visitors do leave disappointed at not having seen any cetaceans, and that’s perfectly understandable. When you’ve long dreamed of encountering a whale or a pod of dolphins, the anticipation is immense.
But observing cetaceans in Guadeloupe means, above all, accepting one essential rule: nature decides. We simply enter their world with humility.
Every encounter is a gift. A stroke of luck. A privilege that the animals grant us when they choose to reveal themselves. We’re not there to direct the show, but to bear witness to the grandeur of life.
Perhaps that, in the end, is the most beautiful lesson the sea offers us: to remind us that not everything can be controlled, and that the most beautiful emotions often arise from what we can neither predict nor bring about.

Thanks to their many years of experience, Naël, Willem, Vincent, and Fabrice know this coastline inside and out.
They know how to interpret weather conditions, observe bird movements, read the water’s surface, and spot even the slightest blow from several hundred meters away.
Our captains share this same passion and commitment to excellence.
On board, we also use a hydrophone that sometimes allows us to hear the clicks of sperm whales or the songs of humpback whales when conditions permit.
Everything is designed to provide the most complete experience possible, always with respect for the animals.
The most wonderful encounters are often the most unexpected ones
We remember that trip when, after searching unsuccessfully for over an hour, a mother and her calf appeared right in front of us.
Or those dolphins that spontaneously came to play at the bow of the boat as we were heading back to port.
And how could we forget those sperm whales we spotted taking a quick nap, motionless beneath the surface, discovered almost by chance thanks to the footage from our GoPro!
None of these moments were planned.
And that’s precisely what makes them unforgettable.

With just a few clicks, we choose a movie, order a meal, or book a trip.
Nature works differently.
